What is Hyper-V and How it Works in Cloud Computing

What is Hyper-V and How it Works in Cloud Computing. This is a technology from Microsoft that allows users to create virtual computing environments and run and manage multiple operating systems on a single physical server.

This article will introduce the topic of how this software operates. Then I will  list the benefits, advantages as well as disadvantages. At the end this article blog I will show you how it applies in conjunction with Cloud Computing.

Let’s start the article What is Hyper-V and How it Works in Cloud Computing.

Introduction to Hyper-V

Well Hyper-V is a hardware virtualization product from Microsoft. Each virtual machine works like a computer with an operating system and running programs. When you need computing resources, virtual machines offer more flexibility, save time and money. It is more efficient way to use your hardware than running a single operating system on your hardware.

Moreover Hyper-V runs each virtual machine in its own separate space. That means you can run multiple virtual machines on the same hardware at the same time. Another plus is that you can avoid problems like bugs affecting other workloads or giving different people, groups, or departments access to different systems.

How do you use it?

Administrators can create Hyper-V failover groups using Manager. A failover group (or high availability group) is a group of two or more nodes. Additionally it operates in cluster mode, providing high availability and failover for virtual machines with only seconds of downtime.

The virtual machine will be unavailable for a few seconds while the failover service takes over and moves the virtual machine between nodes. Hyper-V failover clusters are managed by the Failover Cluster Manager.

With Hyper-V Manager, administrators can manage locally or remotely. Manager will be installed during the installation of Management Tools, which you can do with a full installation or simply install the tools. Performing a tools installation only means that you can use the tools to host Software on computers that do not meet the hardware requirements.

When configuring Hyper-V, it is important to understand its various components. Installation of Hyper-V roles on a physical machine, together is called a virtual platform. It combines into it a set of tools. These parts work together to create virtual machines and run them efficiently. Virtualization platforms include:

  • Hyper-V Virtual Machine.
  • Management Service.
  • Windows Hypervisor.
  • Virtual Machine Bus (VMbus).
  • Virtualization WMI Provider.

Benefits and Features of Hyper-V

What are the Features of using Hyper-V?

Portability

  • Features are storage migration, import/export and live migration with any virtual machine. Deploy it or move it easily to make it portable.

Security

A Computing Environment

  • Important to know that virtual machine contains all the necessary parts present in your personal computer, such as CPU, network, storage and memory. Each item has different options and functions that can be configured as needed. All parts of a virtual machine can be used in any way.

Remote Connectivity

  • Remote login tools are included in VM login on Linux and Windows. This tool gives you access to the console, which will allow you to see what is happening in the guest before the operating system starts. This is a unique feature that is better than remote desktop.

Replication and migration

  • Another notable feature of Hyper-V is that it copies backup from virtual machines (VMs) to different locations. Secondly  it provides a migration tool that can move virtual machines from one Hyper-V host to another without much of a downtime.

What are the Benefits?

Saves Money

  • Thirdly it contains some advanced features that are only available in newer versions of VMware vSphere. Windows hypervisor surpasses other hypervisors in terms of features, ecosystem and convenience of business solutions.

Flexibility

  • Virtualization offers great flexibility and makes life easier. Windows Hyper-V facilitates direct migration of running virtual machines from one host to another. The new storage migration feature allows you to move the default storage of a running virtual machine from one VM storage to another.
  • Possibility to store virtual machines in any SMB3 file while using all the advanced features. They allow you to place virtual machines on servers. It helps you save money by buying a SAN and you don’t need to connect all your Hyper-V servers directly.

Disaster Recovery

  • Windows replication simplifies server replication over a secure VPN or WAN. Before, only large companies could afford to copy on a server, but now even small businesses can do it. This is the best way to protect your server from disaster.

Simplify application testing

  • You can easily add and remove operating systems from a virtual machine, so you can run and test all these applications from a single computer.

Pros of Hyper-V

  • It doesn’t use many resources.
  • Ability to change things like the amount of memory and storage easily.
  • Very stable and reliable.
  • You can move the virtual machines easily across push servers without any difficulty.
  • Great solution in general.

Cons of Hyper-V

  • The Hyper-V console can be improved to make this easier.
  • Needs more granular approach.
  • Various virtual switches could also be improved to make virtual desk management slightly better.
  • Checkpoints or snapshots can be enhanced to be more transparent to the user.
  • Disk management needs to improve.
  • Replication could be improved slightly.

Hyper-V in Cloud Computing

Interestingly the Hyper-V role of Microsoft initiative is to provide virtualization and virtualization management software to customers and to make it easier for businesses to virtualize and migrate existing server hardware assets to public or private clouds.

The main role of Hyper-V in the Cloud Computing

  • Creates or expands a private cloud environment.
  • Provides more flexible on demand computing services by moving or expanding the use of shared resources and adjusting their use as needs change.
  • Uses your device more efficiently.
  • Consolidates servers and workloads onto fewer, more powerful physical computers to use less power and physical space.
  • Improves business continuity.
  • Minimizes the impact of planned and unplanned downtime for workloads.
  • Deploys Hyper-V and the RD virtualization host on the same server. That allows users to use individual virtual desktops or groups of virtual desktops.

Applications of Hyper-V in Cloud Computing

Computing environment

  • A Hyper-V virtual machine contains the same basic components as a physical computer, including memory, processors, storage and networking. All of these parts have features and options that you can configure in different ways to meet different needs. Because you can configure them in so many ways, both storage and networking can be considered their own class.

Disaster recovery and backup

  • For disaster recovery, Hyper-V Replica creates a copy of a virtual machine designed to be stored in another physical location so that you can restore the virtual machine from the copy. For backup, Software offers two types. It uses the saved state and the other uses the Volume Snapshot Service (VSS). Allows you to perform application compatible backups of VSS enabled applications.

Optimization

  • Each supported guest operating system contains a dedicated set of services and drivers, called integration services. That facilitate the use of the operating system in a Hyper-V virtual machine.

High Availability and Fast Recovery

  • Replicas can be used for recovery replication and create copies of virtual machines stored in multiple physical locations. Again to ensure high availability and fast recovery.

Thank you for reading What is Hyper-V and How it Works in Cloud Computing. Let’s conclude.

What is Hyper-V and How it Works in Cloud Computing Conclusion

To summarize by using Hyper v in cloud computing (server virtualization) leads to improvement in efficiency, reduces energy consumption, facilitates migration to another server. Moreover assists in disaster recovery and rapid provisioning. Many companies are investing in server virtualization, which reduces the need for large data centers over time.

Virtualization and Hyper-V alone have revolutionized a new revolution in computing. This includes saving hardware resources, reduces the space required and saves energy.

This Microsoft Software product has created a powerful solution that easily competes with other solutions like  with VM VirtualBox and Fusion. The  tool is great especially if you are a Windows user. You don’t need to download or purchase it separately, you just need to activate it. However, it only works on Windows devices, so Mac and Linux users need to install a distribution of Linux, including Ubuntu.

Thanks I hope I helped with this article blog.
